UTMB Nice Training: last long run

For the final long run of my training programme, I’m sticking to the Ouen Toro route. The aim is to complete it in 3 hours 10 minutes with 900 metres of elevation gain.

I’m feeling a bit tired, so I’m taking my time. As a result, I set off at midday…

I start off on flat ground for 10 minutes to warm up, then head into the Ouen Toro park to tackle the climbs – including a fairly steep one – before reaching the paragliding take-off site.

A short descent takes me back onto a path leading to the summit; a fun single track through the woodland, and I’m at the top.

I take a moment to look out over Mont Dore as I go round the canyon, then head back down to a water source by the roadside. I top up my water and set off again on a gentle stretch back to the starting point.

I’m going to do this loop five times. It’s a very good workout, quite different from the long ascents and descents of Mont Dore.

From now on, it’s time for the fine-tuning phase – in other words, training continues but only just enough to maintain the benefits of my preparation whilst regaining strength so I’m fresh at the start of the UTMB in Nice.

The training load is low, but the stress is mounting 🙂
